With this review of the De’Longhi EC.680.M Premium Pump Coffee Machine I will provide you with all the information you need to make a decision on whether to purchase this coffee machine or continue to look at other models.
This will be quite a long post, but I will cover everything that you need to know.
I don’t know about you, but when I fancy a coffee I want it to taste like coffee and I want the process to be quick and simple, not have to get the instructions out every time. I need to be able to just put in some ground coffee (my preference) or a pod, press a button and that’s it. Coffee!
You will find that you come across 2 types of coffee machines, steam driven which will only provide pressure of 2-3 bar or pump driven at 10 bar plus. A pump driven version does provide better tasting coffee. I know!
So let’s start off this review of the De’Longhi EC.680.M Premium Pump Coffee Machine.

This pump driven coffee machine is ready to use in 35 seconds and has 15 bar professional pressure. 15 bar pressure is just the pressure at which the coffee is pumped through the machine. Depending on the size of the machine, will determine how much pressure is actually used.
Some of the ground coffee machines don’t apply all of the pressure. Some machines lose some of the pressure in the process. But when you do decide which coffee maker to purchase, always go for a pump over a steam.
This is fitted with a manual milk frother, which I find better, especially with this version you can make espresso, latte’s and cappuccinos as well.
A 1 Litre water tank, which is adequate for this smaller appliance and will make between 4 – 6 cups, although I tend to change the water after each use. Sometimes I will only half fill the tank, just so that I have enough for 2 cups of coffee.
3 Interchangeable devices so that you can make one or two cups at once.
A thermoblock boiler is used for heating the water. This heats the water as it pulls it through the machine. You may hear a ticking or similar noise initially as it pulls the water through.
Most of the time this happens when you have let the water tank run out. This is the main reason for warm up time being so quick.
Adjust auto off by using the control panel you can select when you want the machine to go off, excellent energy saving feature for those of us who never turn anything off.
Ease of Use
The De’Longhi EC.680.M Premium Pump Coffee Machine is very easy to use with a well-lit, 3 button control panel.
It is very easy to keep clean, just remove the drip tray and water level indicator, you can then access all the areas easily.
To make your favourite coffee, whether its latte, cappuccino or espresso you only have to select from the 3 buttons on the panel. You can also just create a creamy milk for the top of instant coffee if that’s your preference. The filter holder has 3 compatible heads for either 1 or 2 cup and they are stainless steel.

1. The first time you use your De’Longhi EC.680.M Premium Pump Coffee Machine it is recommended that the first 4/5 cups will not be as good as the next 5. It takes a little while to bed the machine in.
2. The water hardness level of your area will have a large impact on how long the machine will last. Check what you water hardness level is and set you coffee machine to it. It is quite a simple process and will extend the life as well as preventing descaling on a more frequent level.
3. Always use semi-skimmed milk directly from the fridge. The will give the best results.
4. When using the steamer do not use for longer than 1 minute.
5. The water tank needs to be cleaned out on a monthly basis.
6. The boiler outlet needs to be cleaned through after roughly 200 cups of coffee. It is a very simple process and instructions are included in the manual. By cleaning the appliance, you will extend the life and get great tasting coffee.
The De’Longhi EC.680.M Premium Pump Coffee Machine is ready to go straight from the box, just plug in, fill with water and your away. I would however suggest you follow some of the tips above before sampling your first coffee.
The price is very reasonable considering you can make an espresso, latte or cappuccino with ease.
The slim and sleek design makes this perfect for any kitchen. After studying endless reviews, prior to writing this post, I found that overall this makes an excellent espresso. The time that it takes to make a cuppa is minimal.
The option to use either pods or ground coffee is a safe bet. How often do you run out of ground coffee, so keeping pods (Ese pods as they are paper based) as back up works.
After studying the reviews, I found that most of the negative comments were minimal, but they needed to be pointed out. The first is that this appliance does not come with a frothing jug, one is really needed to make coffee, so you will need to purchase one. Please make sure it is a small one and make of stainless steel.
The reason for purchasing a small one is due to the next negative and that is that the frothing wand is not very long and those that have a large jug are finding that the milk is cold at the bottom.
The last negative is that the plastic tamper is flimsy.
If you are looking for a pump pressure coffee machine, then the De’Longhi EC.680.M Premium Pump Coffee Machine is an ideal choice. The benefits that you get from this machine far outweigh the negatives.
It makes a great cup of espresso.
